Comments Part 1 - Garage Kit - Captain Harlock - Queen Emeraldas -Kaiyodo

victorviper21 days ago#124858471Somehow, I thought this kit was larger than 1/8 scale from the pictures.
Having to sculpt a neck basically from scratch...whew.

This kit overall 'feels' large because of the huge cloak doubling as base. She's heavy as well.

Luckily the neck is mostly hidden by the scarf! Although I think I ended up making it look decent.

herbal21 days ago#124863868Hopefully no mishap with masking, given the amount of mold release suspected. Following with interest.

Masking has been going well, the tape has been sticking to the figure. All the extra washing definitely helped!

Dr_Oru23 days ago#124807485Aren't you glad you had that pint of icecream? xd
Fun project, even though having less pieces might make it a bit more tedious to paint certain spots.
Really enjoy your work videos and will be looking forward for her paintjob!

Yes, it was a really nice chocolate fudge ice cream hahaha.

And yeah it's definitely tedious, I'm used to moving from piece to piece when painting. Letting another one dry while working on the next one. But with how huge the main piece is, there is a lot more waiting and careful handling involved.

Thank you!

It also meant you had to do a lot more masking since it usually meant you had multiple colors adjoining on the same piece. Kits today seem to be broken down in pieces that have been thought through a bit more to minimize the number of colors you'll be airbrushing with on each piece. I always found masking to be the most tedious part of the process. :)

Yeah I am definitely spending a lot more time on it now that the kit is mostly 1 big piece. The main piece is quite heavy as well actually. Sculpt is amazing though!

Tjilp23 days ago#124819313Wow, that's a very pretty kit! Nice work on all the sanding. A chore, but worth it :')
And or the pinning huge pieces - is it possible to use very thick brass rods, so you only need to use one drill hole? Maybe that's what happens with 1/4, too? I honestly haven't a clue but I think that's how I would do it xD

Jep, it's very high quality! Looks better than more modern doujin kits I have been working on. Glad the sanding is over so that I can look forward to more fun stuff like paint mixing!

Ahhh, maybe? Having 1 thick rod rather than pinning multiple small ones. The thing coming most close to this is that I once for a GK standing on one leg put a screw through the base and her foot (like a Kotobukiya figure). :') I think I'll have to do that for BLOG #59133 as well, because she is posed so dainty on 1 foot.

Luckily this kit just has a big coat to stand on, not even a base needed.
